Why Travis Air Force Base Residents Choose Freedom Counseling Group

Many of our clients are high-functioning individuals who appear successful on the outside but are internally struggling with triggers, intrusive thoughts, or a persistent feeling of being on edge. They have often tried traditional talk therapy with limited results and are ready for something different. They want an approach that addresses the root cause of their distress rather than simply managing symptoms.

Our group practice specializes in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) therapy, a research-backed approach that has transformed the lives of countless individuals dealing with trauma, anxiety, phobias, and other challenging conditions. Unlike practices where EMDR is just one tool among many, our therapists have developed deep expertise in this modality, ensuring you receive care from clinicians who understand the nuances of EMDR and can adapt treatment to your specific needs and goals.

We recognize that seeking therapy is a significant decision. Many Vacaville residents have questions about what to expect, whether therapy will work for them, and how to fit treatment into their busy schedules. Our team is committed to making this process as smooth and accessible as possible, offering both in-person sessions and online therapy options to accommodate your lifestyle and preferences.

Comprehensive Mental Health Services

At Freedom Counseling Group, we treat a wide range of mental health concerns affecting adults, teens, couples, first responders, and military personnel in the Vacaville area. Our services include specialized treatment for anxiety, trauma, PTSD, depression, OCD, phobias, ADHD, and autism support. We also offer Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) for couples seeking to strengthen their relationships and build more secure emotional bonds.

Vacaville's proximity to Travis Air Force Base means our community includes many military families who may be dealing with service-related challenges. First responders in the area, including police officers, firefighters, and emergency medical personnel, also face elevated risks of developing PTSD due to repeated exposure to traumatic situations. Our therapists have experience working with these populations and understand the unique cultural considerations involved in providing effective, respectful care.

The EMDR Difference

EMDR therapy is the cornerstone of our treatment approach at Freedom Counseling Group. When we experience trauma, memories can become "stuck" in the brain, retaining the emotional intensity and physical sensations of the original experience. This is why trauma survivors can be triggered by reminders of an event, experiencing fear and distress as if the trauma were happening again in the present moment.

EMDR facilitates the brain's natural healing processes, helping you reprocess these memories so they can be integrated and stored without the overwhelming emotional charge. After successful EMDR treatment, you can remember events without experiencing the intense distress that previously characterized those memories.

What makes EMDR particularly appealing to many clients is that it does not require extensive discussion of traumatic events. Unlike some forms of talk therapy that ask you to describe trauma in detail repeatedly, EMDR allows for processing without prolonged exposure to distressing material. This makes it an attractive option for individuals who find talking about their experiences difficult or retraumatizing.

Convenient Online and In-Person Options

We understand that TAFB residents lead busy lives. Commuting, work responsibilities, family obligations, and other demands can make it challenging to fit therapy appointments into your schedule. That is why Freedom Counseling Group offers both in-person sessions and online therapy options.

Online therapy provides the same high-quality care as in-person sessions while eliminating travel time and offering greater flexibility in scheduling. You can participate in sessions from the comfort of your own home or any private location with a reliable internet connection. Our secure, HIPAA-compliant platform ensures your privacy and confidentiality. For those who prefer face-to-face interaction, we also offer office-based sessions. Many clients appreciate having both options available depending on their circumstances.

Beginning Your Journey with Freedom Counseling Group

Taking the first step toward therapy can feel daunting, but our intake process is designed to be simple, supportive, and stress-free. It begins with a free, confidential consultation where you can discuss your unique needs, ask questions about EMDR therapy and our approach, and ensure you feel comfortable with our practice. This conversation gives you the opportunity to determine whether Freedom Counseling Group feels like a good match before committing to treatment.

If we mutually determine that our practice is the right fit, all necessary forms are handled securely and conveniently through our online Client Portal. We believe that every person is unique, and effective therapy must be tailored to individual needs. Your treatment plan will be developed specifically for you, taking into account your history, symptoms, goals, preferences, and life circumstances. As therapy progresses, your therapist will continually adjust the approach based on your response and emerging needs. This is not cookie-cutter treatment.
